First, here are the books my third grader is reading independently this year:
American History (15 minutes, twice per week, oral narration)
The idea behind this year's history selections is to introduce my daughter to famous people and events from American history, as well as a peak into what life was like in times past, through books at a comfortable reading level.

Classical Studies (20 minutes, once per week, oral narration)
We're doing an introduction to greek mythology this year, reading D'Aulaire's book together, which will take most of the year.
Science/Geography (15 minutes, twice per week, oral narration)
Science is still nature-focused, so I've selected books that will hopefully open her eyes to the natural world around her.

Literature (15 minutes, four times per week, oral narration twice per week; increased to 20 minutes in week 8)
I hope that reading quality literature daily will help develop a desire for good books, and an ability to think deeply as she gets older.

The empty boxes at the bottom of each day is a place where I write short, encouraging notes to her.
